And by set up I mean my background, of course.
As a 25 year-old divorcee who had been with her husband since she was 19, I recently found myself completely unaware of how to interact with the opposite sex. And I want to interact.
After separating from Mr. Grumpy Pants I quickly looked for attention to make up for the severe lack of it in my life. I went on Facebook (of all places) and friended a few very tall (6'3), cute boys with absolutely no ambitions and even less social skills. Met them both in person during the same week and made out with both of them on several (sometimes back to back) occasions. Losers. One of them was 30 and still lived with his parents and the other had very strange rules about everything i.e. first kisses should be standing up.
In between this nonsense I was struggling with the idea of divorce which was completely foreign to my little girl brain. It just didn't exist. The world completely stopped as soon as the word "separated" was texted (yes, it was texted to me). I was a great wife, though. Excellent, actually. Loved him to a fault. It still baffles me that I could make breakfast, lunch, and dinner for this man, clean the baseboards every other day (oh, this wasn't my idea), lovingly fold his laundry, and fawn over him in every way only to be left for a Jay Leno-chinned "artist" who couldn't even form proper sentences? It's a wonder that I still have an innate want to French Press coffee for anyone anymore. But I do!
After about six months and many NyQuil/Crying/Pot/Drinking/Baking nights and even a "sort of dating" situation, I decided to sign up for an online dating site. I was completely against this for months, but then realized that I had a complete lack of adult dating skills. I had to do it! I was scared.
So far, my odds have not been in my favor when comparing good dates to bad, but that's what I've been told is normal.
While I realize that many of these horrible dates are partially my fault, I feel compelled to share my experiences with the world because, darn it, I need some feedback!
